Frequently Asked Questions
Do Jonath's Animal Kingdom sell python enclosures?
Yes we do, getting the right enclosure for your python is very important. A proper reptile enclosure starts with selecting the right size and style of tank or terrarium based on the species and its adult size. You’ll also need secure ventilation, a tight-fitting lid, and species-appropriate substrate (e.g. reptile carpet, sand, coconut fibre, or bark). Heating is crucial. Most reptiles need a heat lamp or under-tank heater to thermoregulate, along with a temperature gradient across the enclosure. UVB lighting is often essential for calcium absorption and metabolic health. Don’t forget décor like hides, branches, rocks, and water bowls to encourage natural behaviours. Some setups also require humidity control, misting systems, and live plants. You can either visit the store or visit our online shop to see our full range of enclosures for all your reptiles.
Do all reptiles need UVB lighting?
No, not all, but many do. UVB lighting is essential for reptiles that synthesise vitamin D3 through sunlight exposure. This includes most lizards and turtles, such as bearded dragons, iguanas, and water turtles. Without UVB, these reptiles can develop metabolic bone disease, which leads to deformities and poor calcium absorption. Snakes, on the other hand, generally don’t require UVB but still benefit from a well-regulated light cycle. Always research the lighting needs of your specific species and replace UVB bulbs every 6–12 months, as their effectiveness fades even if the bulb still produces visible light.
How often should reptile enclosures be cleaned?
Spot-cleaning should be done daily, removing uneaten food, waste, and soiled substrate. Full cleaning of the enclosure should take place at least once a month, including disinfecting surfaces, changing substrate, and cleaning hides, water bowls, and other décor. If your reptile is sensitive or in brumation (a form of reptile hibernation), minimise stress and adjust your schedule accordingly. Use reptile-safe disinfectants and rinse everything thoroughly before reintroducing your pet. Maintaining good hygiene helps prevent bacterial growth, parasites, and respiratory issues.
